Frostbiting is a type of small-boat sailing that takes place in cold weather conditions, typically during the fall and winter months.
The current racing fleet at Sea Cliff is comprised of Sunfish and Lasers. The Frostbiting season begins the first week in November, and racing is held every Sunday at 12 Noon (weather permitting) and runs until the first Sunday in May. The format is set up as informal racing stressing fun and learning. Experienced and inexperienced sailors are always welcome. It is not necessary to own a boat, as many members are willing to share their boats for others to participate.
Sailors participating in the frostbiting sailing program are required to wear life jackets, appropriate cold-weather gear, including wetsuits or dry suits, thermal layers, and gloves.
Frostbiting sailing programs can be a great way for sailors to stay active and continue to improve their skills during the offseason. The relaxed nature of the racing and the camaraderie of the sailing participants can make it a fun and rewarding experience for all.
